To legally produce your number plates, we are required to see and record the details from your original documents proving your identity and your entitlement to the registration. For example, a utility bill & V5C Logbook or V750 Certificate (see 'Valid Documents' page for full list).
The easiest documents to provide are those which are a PDF in their original form; e.g. an eV948 Certificate of Authorisation and a bank statement or utility/telephone bill.

Utopia Plates does not sell show plates, as they could be used on the road, even though the manufacturer may sell them on the basis that they will not be. For this reason, it is illegal for a Registered Number Plate Supplier to produce any number plates featuring a legitimate registration if they do not conform to the British Standard for number plates. As such, we will not sell show plates (this includes tinted plates, blank plates or those with non-standard spacing). We will only produce fully road legal plates, with standard spacing (as it appears on your V5C).
No, this is not road legal. The centre of the number plates must feature the company name and postcode of the manufacturer for them to conform to the British Standard. We cannot print your name or any other slogan in this space.
Our warranty policy provides a 12-month cover for any manufacturing or material defects in your number plates. This includes issues like water getting between the reflective and acrylic layers, delamination, or loss of lettering that wasn't caused by damage. For a more extensive protection, we suggest you look at our Accidental Damage Cover. This policy gives you two (2) like-for-like replacement number plates if they're accidentally damaged, and this cover lasts for 2 years from your purchase date.
Your dispatch time for number plates varies depending on your specific order.
If you've ordered a private registration from us, we dispatch your number plates as soon as we receive the V750 Certificate of Entitlement from the DVLA, unless you've requested a different arrangement.
For orders involving only number plates, without a private registration, we typically dispatch the plates on the same day we receive your proof of address and proof of entitlement documents. While this isn't a guarantee, we're proud to say that our service is very quick.
Yes, you can cancel your order, however, it's important to note that we have a cancellation policy in place.
For number plates, you have the right to cancel from the moment the order is placed, until either the manufacturing process begins or 90 days have elapsed. A cancellation fee of £5 per number plate will be deducted from your refund.
For private registration orders, cancellations must be made within 30 minutes of placing the order. A cancellation fee equivalent to the Administration Fee on the order will be deducted from your refund. Please note that due to the bespoke nature of these orders, the 30-minute window for cancellations is strictly adhered to.

Number Plate Sizes
The standard UK size for number plates are 520mm by 111mm. Please note this will vary if you opt for a shortened plate option. Shortened plates are cut down to a unique size depending on the length of your registration. Unlike our competitors, we cut these to whichever size you require rather than using pre-made short plates. We produce them to have a 16mm margin on all edges of the number plate, which leaves a nice even clean finish to your plate. If you require a specific size, please state this in the special requests box after clicking purchase. Legally, your number plates cannot have a margin any less than 11mm.
Legality
Everything produced by Utopia Plates is fully road legal. We do not produce anything that is not compliant with the British Standard for number plates. Please note that by law we include our company name, postcode and BSAU number on the plate. The font style for all our plates is Charles Wright which is the legal UK road font. The DVLA confirm that three-dimensional characters are legal and compliant with road laws, this includes ‘4D’ number plates, as 4D is only an industry standard name, and they are still classed as three-dimensional.

Legal Document Requirements
When buying number plates online, the only way to operate fully legally is for the Registered Number Plate Supplier to see the original physical documents in person. If you aren't local to us in County Durham, and cannot provide an in-date eV948 Certificate of Authorisation and digital proof of address, you will need to send us the documents in the post. The process is simple and the steps to take are explained in depth after you have placed your order. Once we have received your documents, we will produce your number plates and return the documents securely along with the number plates, using a tracked postal service.
Warranty
All of our plates come with a 12 month warranty covering manufacturing defects or natural occurring issues. We do not cover for customer inflicted faults. Please contact us via email or the contact page to get in touch regarding your warranty.
